According to the National Retail Foundation, which Halloween costume was the most popular among U.S.
According to the NRF survey in 2012, the most popular costume among adults for Halloween that year was the witch. It found that many people were taking inspiration for their Halloween costume from their online alter egos. About 15 percent stated they trolled Facebook for costume ideas, while 7 percent preferred to scour Pinterest for dress-up ideas. Current events also played a part in costume selection that year, with many opting for costumes to represent Olympic athletes and presidential imposters. Tradition still held its own, however, with more than three million adults opting to dress as classic vampires or pirates. Source: NationalGeographic.com
