Since it began in 1810, how many times was the Oktoberfest festival canceled?
· 24 [correct]
Oktoberfest was originally a royal wedding feast party that took place at the Theresienwiese, or Theresia meadow, where it is still held today. In 1819, beer carts replaced the yearly horse races and a royal edict declared the party must return each fall. Events required cancellation of the festival two dozen (24) times since it began. Cancellation came during the Franco-Prussian war in 1870, twice during cholera epidemics and again during the hyperinflation of the 1920s. The years during and immediately following World War I and World War II also saw the cancellation of the Oktoberfest. Source: ReaderDigest.ca
